The tables below must list the cookies your site actually sets. Fill in the bracketed rows once the analytics decision is made, delete any row that does not apply, and re-check the list whenever a new script is added. A cookie notice that does not match reality is worse than none.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. Some are needed for a site to work at all; others watch how it is used. The same rules apply to similar technologies — local storage, session storage and pixels — and we treat them the same way here.
2. Our approach
Under the UK's Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations we may set strictly necessary cookies without asking, but we need your consent for anything else. So:
- Nothing optional is set until you choose. No analytics runs while the banner is still on screen.
- Rejecting is as easy as accepting — one click, same prominence, no dark patterns and no "legitimate interests" toggles buried in a submenu.
- The site works fully if you refuse. Nothing is withheld and the banner does not come back to nag you.
- Your choice is recorded with a timestamp so we can evidence it, and you can change it at any time.
3. Strictly necessary
These cannot be switched off, because the site cannot do its job without them.
| Name | What it does | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
| fisem_consent_v1 local storage | Remembers the cookie choice you made, so you are not asked again on every page. | Until you clear it |
| [session cookie] | Keeps you signed in and protects the sign-in form against cross-site request forgery. | [duration] |
| [hosting / security cookie] | Set by our hosting provider for load balancing and to block abusive traffic. | [duration] |
4. Analytics — only with your consent
These tell us in aggregate which pages are read and which are ignored, so we can improve them. They are off by default and only run if you switch them on.
| Name | Provider | What it does | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Tells one visitor apart from another so a visit is counted once. The value is a randomly generated number, not anything about you. | 2 years |
| _ga_EMGX2Y6Q8W | Google Analytics | Keeps the state of the current visit, so the pages you read are grouped into one session. The suffix is this site's measurement ID. | 2 years |
Nothing in this category is set unless you switch analytics on, and the two cookies above appear only once you do.
Google Signals and advertising personalisation are switched off for this property, so this data is not used to build advertising audiences, and we do not use it to identify anyone.
5. What we don't use
No advertising cookies. No third-party tracking pixels. No cross-site profiling, no data brokers and no selling of anything about you. If that ever changes, this page changes first and we ask you again.
6. Change your choice
Open Cookie settings — it is also in the footer of every page. Turn analytics on or off and save; the change takes effect immediately.
Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, and does not affect anything collected while consent was in place.
7. Browser controls
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Every major browser lets you clear cookies for a single site, block third-party cookies, or refuse them entirely — look for "Privacy" or "Site settings". Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site working, including signing in.
Most browsers also offer a "do not track" signal. There is no agreed standard for honouring it, so we do not rely on it — use the cookie settings above, which we do act on.
8. More information
Personal data collected through cookies is covered by our privacy notice. For independent guidance on cookies and your rights, see the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
